Amir graduated in 2004 with an Honors Degree in political science from York University, in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was then admitted to the St. Thomas University Law School in Miami, Florida. This prospect brought much excitement to Amir, not only because he had a passion for the law, but it also gave him the opportunity to escape the fluctuating temperatures in Toronto and experience warm tropical weather year round.
Amir graduated from Law School in 2007. He became a Member of the Florida Bar the same year and immediately entered the legal profession. His passion for practicing in the areas of criminal defense and immigration law landed him a position with the Broward County Public Defender’s Office from 2008 through 2012. Amir immediately began to hone his motion practice and trial skills as a criminal defense lawyer having handled over a thousand misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony cases from the investigative stage to trial by judge or jury. He has taken well over 50 trials to verdict, argued pre-trial evidentiary motions, bond motions, defended post-conviction matters, including violations of probation and motions to vacate, and was involved in many cases at the “pre-file,” or case-filing stage. Amir has been successful in achieving exemplary results for his clients in many of his cases at the “pre-file” stage, often resulting in charges never being filed.
Amir has a personal connection and self-proclaimed duty to immigration law. Being an immigrant himself, he has first-hand experience in navigating the complex and daunting American immigration system. Having no immigration status after graduating law school, he personally managed to obtain a temporary status that allowed him to stay in the US for a total of six years until he received his green card in 2012. On January 19, 2018, after residing in the US for more than 13 years, Amir was finally naturalized as a U.S. Citizen. He is extremely proud to be a dual citizen of, what he believes are, “The two best countries in the world – Canada and the United States.”
In 2016, Amir also became a licensed member of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), allowing him to provide legal services to those whom are interested in immigrating to Canada as well as the United States.
Amir enjoys spending time and travelling with his wife, son, and his dog. He also enjoys& Florida Panthers hockey games but is a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Amir is a master on the grill and relishes barbecuing with family, friends and his favorite clients.
